A case is an important accessory for any laptop. These portable computers can easily break if liquid is spilled on them and can be easily scratched. To protect your laptop and keep it clean, you can make your own cloth case. Create your case using your favorite fabric and decorations to add a personal touch.
Things You’ll Need
- Fabric for the exterior
- Coordinating thread
- Heavyweight needle
- Sewing Machine
- Fabric marker
- Measuring tape
1-Wash and iron all your fabrics.
2-Measure your laptop’s width, length and height. Calculate the measurements for your fabrics. For the main panel the measurement is length plus height plus one inch by width plus height plus one inch. For the flap panels the measurement is length plus one inch by height plus 4.5 inches. Cut two main panels and two flap panels out of each piece of fabric.
3-Cut a piece of Velcro two inches shorter than the width of the flap panel. Place the prickly side of the tape 1 inch above the edge of the flannel piece and stitch around all four sides.
4-Place the flannel piece from Step 3 and a piece of the exterior fabric right sides together. Stitch with 1/2 seam allowance leaving the top open. The top is the side farthest away from the Velcro. Trim corners. Turn inside out. Press. Top stitch, leaving the top side open.
5-Place the two main fleece panels with the each main exterior fabric panels wrong sides together. Center the piece from Step 4 on one of the fleece/exterior fabric combinations and stitch close to the edge.
6-Place the fuzzy side of the Velcro 2.5 inches above the edge of the remaining fleece/exterior fabric combination and stitch into place.
7-Place the front and back panels together, with the exterior fabrics facing each other and the fleece on the outside. Cover the fleece outside with the flannel pieces. Pin all the layers and sew into place using a 1/2 seam allowance. Be careful not to sew the top/opening of the case.
8-Turn over and press. Top stitch the opening of the case.
9-Turn the case inside out. Stitch the bottom and sides edges with a zig zag-stitch. Trim all loose threads. Turn right sides out.
